I Caved....

I caved and bought Madden on the way home last night. I punched in Best Buy into my GPS as I was leaving work yesterday and I saw there was one like 5.5 miles away. I looked at the location and I practically had to drive past it (give or take 1/2 mile or so) to get home. In route to Best Buy I saw a Toys R Us. So I jumped in there, got my copy and headed home.

I played two games last night. One as the Colts the other as the Saints. I lost the game as the Colts, won as the Saints. Wow the Colts offense is crazy. I had an empty backfield formation with 5 wideouts. The 5 wideouts were Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez (go Buckeyes!), Dallas Clark, Joseph Adi and Marvin Harrison. This one particular play was virtually unstoppable. Unfortunately, so was my CPU opponent, so I ended up losing 24-21 after coughing the ball up late. The Saints are a fun team to use. With the combo of Deuce McCallister and Reggie Bush, you can spell your HB to give them a breather, or line one up as a wideout and have the other come out of the backfield. Plus they have two speedy receives in Marques Colston and Terrence ? Copper.

I like all the options Madden gives you. I feel like Payton Manning out there when I'm assigning hot routes. But sometimes I tend to do too much and have receivers bumping into one another, or I lose control of the game clock and get called for delay of game. So I have to practice a little more. I haven't messed with the defensive hot routes much. The one time I did, I ended up blitzing a linebacker, which left a huge mismatch of a speedy wideout being covered by a defensive tackle. You all know how that ended.

There is also a mini game that I love. It's you as an offensive lineman and you have to lead block for your HB agisnt 3 defenders. It's so much fun. It gives me a new appreciation for offense lineman. I thought they were just huge, fat, slow guys. But some of those guys can really move. They get out in front of the running backs in a hurry. Amazing that a 300 pound person can move that quickly.

So overall, from what I've seen of Madden, I like it so far. A lot of new stars emerged last year, and there were quite a few free agents who jumped ship, so it should be interesting. Plus you have all those rookies coming into the league like Calvin Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Aj Hawk (go Buckeyes) and Jamarcus Russell (if he ever signs). I really hope Jamarcus gets to play this year. He amazed me how he could throw a ball 60 yards off his back leg. That guy has a cannon for an arm.

Went running for the first time in almost two weeks on Monday night. It was so hot last week, and the air quality was code orange most of the week, so I didn't think it was smart to push myself. I managed to fit in 2 miles on my elliptical last Tuesday night, but it was so hot in my garage, I felt like I was just oozing sweat. Before I stopped, I felt like I was making really nice progress. Monday night, it felt like I was almost back to square one. I ended up finishing 2 miles in 22:10. Even though I was only off my goal by 10 seconds, I was really struggling. Hopefully as I get back out there on a regular basis again, my stamina will return. I'm playing golf after work with some work friends, so I won't get to run tonight. However, we've decided we're going to play 9 holes of golf and walk the course. So I'll be getting lots of exercise. Considering the average golf hole is about 400 yards, that's about a 1/4 mile. So if we play 9 holes, I will walk roughly 2-2.5 miles. Supposedly the course is quite hilly, so it should be wacky.

Ya know, back in the early days of Hollywood, there were lots of people who struggled with substance abuse. Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood etc. But I guess since the reporters back then weren't so veracious, it was either overlooked, or in Dean Martin's case, used in a comedic way. But now with people like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, we know every excruciating detail of their lives. Every time they fall off the wagon, whenever they have a roll in the hay with some new guy (or gal), or whenever they check themselves in or out of rehab. I guess because Lindsay is hot, it causes the paparazzi to follow her around ever turn in hopes of getting the accidental nip slip or beaver peaker. Thanks to the paparazzi, we all got to see Britney's c-section scar is amazing detail.

I'm sure there are lots of young guys in Hollywood who have addiction problems as well. But I guess seeing Franky Munoz and Wilmer Valderama passed out in the back of a limo isn't as interesting or hot. Of course if they turn violent and get into a scuffle, or slap around someone trying to take their picture, then it's Page 6 newsworthy. I hope a few of the young stars like Hayden Pennetier, Vince Young and that little girl from Little Miss Sunshine can manage to stay out of trouble. Vince Young is on the cover of Madden, so I expect something bad to happen to him any day now. I don't know what it is about people who come into fame. They make it big, get paid and the best thing they can do with their lives is destroy it. I just don't get it.
