Happy Maddenoliday!!!!
Happy Maddenoliday happy maddenoliday happy maddenoliday HAAAAAppy Madden-ol-iday!!!
Rachel is picking up my copy of Madden on her way home from work. I told her not to come home without it ;-). I've heard mixed reviews. Some of the hardcore gamers complain that the game is too arcadish and not a true football simulation. I think of the problems with sports games is that people want a lot of action. A real football game typically takes about 3 hours. Teams typically score 21-35 points. Most gamers dont want to play a game for 3 hours. So they usually play a football game with 5 or 6 minute quarters. But they still want their running back to run for 100 yards, their QB to throw 4 td's and their team to score 35 points. So I guess its a fine line. I lean towards more of the arcade style gaming, where I can rush for 150 yards with Tiki Barber. The way I look at it, who draws more viewers? An offensive powerhouse like Payton Manning and the Colts or a defensive geared team like the Bears and Brian Urlacher? People want to see offense for the most part, with a few bone jarring hits and sacks now and again.
You know how once in a while, in a great while, you have that night of sleep where you pretty much wake up in the same position you went to sleep in? Where you sleep so soundly, and so deeply that you don't remember waking up at any point during the night? A typical night for me is falling asleep hard from like midnight to 2AM. Then I usually wake up for a few minutes every 90 minutes or so. Last night I had one of those rare nights where I slept like a baby. I normally dont set an alarm. If I know I have to be up by 6:45, I set my "internal" alarm and I usually wake up around 6:30 and lay in bed for a few more minutes. This morning, I was so asleep that my internal alarm didnt wake me. In fact, Rachel's alarm clock went off at 7:15 and I didnt wake up with that either. Rachel shook me a few times and I finally woke up. Looked at the clock and sprang up. I hate being late. Made it to work about 20 minutes late.
Im glad to see that southern sweet tea is catching on. I saw a commercial that McDonalds is now selling sweet tea. Im sure if it comes from McDonalds it's probbaly loaded with sugar and is really bad for you. But I'll probably give it a try. I prefer making my own, but I like trying sweet tea at different restaurants when we go out. I don't like mine super sweet. The key is drinking it with lots and lots of ice. Room temperature or slightly cold sweet tea. Sweet tea compliments just about any meal. Man I could go for some right now.

What is the difference between Sweet Tea and Iced Tea? Thanks.
Sweet tea just has sugar in it. Some people like their tea unsweetened so they can add sugar to their own liking. Problem with that is that once the tea cools and becomes chilled, its very hard to get the sugar to disolve. Sugar disolves in hot water a lot easier. So some people make this mixture of sugar and water called simple syrup that they add to tea. I just think its easier to put the sugar in when the water is hot.
Now I am confused. What have I been drinking? Sweet tea or Iced tea? All the ice teas I've had were sweetned.
I agree, just like teh saying goes "Chick dig the long ball" everyone likes offense. I've bene playing a lot of madden 06, and I play 5 minute quarters, but I'm averaging over 30 points a game and leading the league in offense. I'd be putting up 90 in a full game.
But the oppenent would score a lot, since i'd get lazy.
I enjoyed teh espn 2k games myself. That competition made Madden 06 so good. without the competion they didn't need to do anything drastic.
Ani, Im not really sure where tea changes from sweet tea to ice tea or vice versa. Im sure everyones definition varies a little. What's important is what you like. I grew up drinking that crappy powdered iced tea. My oldest sister always liked brewing her own tea. When I was younger, I didnt appreciate how it tasted and thought the powdered stuff was better. Now I have a real appreciation for a good glass of tea.
Niel, Im not sure how long EA wrapped up the exclusivity for the NFL license. Im hoping its not much longer. I think some swing competition may be what EA needs. The announcing in the game is so bad. I didnt event get into how bad the announcing is. They have all but eliminated Madden from the game. The only place you see MAdden is when you are picking a play you can choose "Ask Madden" and have him pick a play for you.
THe sound effects and on field effects are awesome though. Lots of smack talk, grunting, etc. When you are in the red zone, and you complete a pass or hand the ball off, you can hear the ball carrier breathing really heavy.
