Italia...Italia!!!
I must admit, I got swept up with the World Cup towards the end. I sat and watched a few games with Rachel and she taught me some of the finer points of the game. So it made it a little more enjoyable.
I remember when I lived in NY, every time Italy would win a world cup match, jackasses would drive around with Italian flags screaming ITALIA, ITALIA!!! So I could only imagine what they must have been doing last night to celebrate. I didn't see or hear anyone doing that down here in Virginia, but I did see a car full of krauteaters, waving German flags when Germany eliminated Argentina a few weeks back.
David Ortiz better win the home run derby tonight. That's right "big poppy" get all those home runs out of your system. I can't believe we're at the all star break already. I feel like it was just opening day. Hell I feel like it was just yesterday I was writing about last years winner Bobby Abreua looking like a retarded Sammy Sosa. I can't believe Rachel and I have been at the new house for a year already. Where does the time go?
After a 4 day weekend last week, this past 2 day weekend seemed to be over before it started. To combat this a little, I woke up about 8:30 both Saturday and Sunday. The weather was really nice, so I didnt want to sleep my whole weekend away.
Played golf saturday morning. I won, but sadly I won with a score of 98. My chipping game was
spot on. I had ne particular hole this week where I was very proud of myself. It was about a 350 yard par 4. I hit my tee shot a bit right and it ended up in a fairway bunker. The GPS told me I was about 118 from the hole. So I took out an 8 iron and hit the ball out of the sand. The ball landed about 30 yards short of the green. So I took out my 56 degree sand wedge and chipping the ball on. It landed about 1 foot behind the hole. I sunk the putt for a par 4. What impressed me was that I actually had a sand save. I don't think I've ever done that before. Usually when I hit it in the sand, it's an automatic 6 for me.
Earlier in the day, I followed a great shot, with an awful shot. We were on the 136 yard par 3. I teed it up and hit an 8 iron about 2 feet from the hole. I get up there, and mark my ball. I watch everyone miss their putts to the left. So I line my putt up, right edge and still miss my birdie putt. But I tapped in for a par. Man I really wanted that birdie putt. But I had 4 pars for the day, so I was happy.
Most frustrating hole. Is a dogleg hole to the right. Par 4 398 yards. I tee it up, and cut the right corner of the fairway, land in some rough. Drive up to my ball, and the GPS says I have about 120 yards to the green. Yeah I realize it was a 278 yard drive, but I probably cut off 50 yards on the hole, but cutting the right corner. So I grab my 9 iron, and get ready for my approach to the green. I should have stepped away, because I felt like I was standing way too close to the ball. But foolishly I didn't. I short armed the shot, topped it and ended up hitting the ball in front of a greenside bunker. About 50 yards out. Instead of doing the smart shot, and aiming for the big fat part of the green. I try to go over the bunker, right at the flag. Comes up short, and into the sand. Took me two shots to get it out of the sand. But Im finally on the green. Laying 5, I two put for a 7. 120 yards from the green, and it took me 4 shots!!! Ugggh.
I've joined the TREO revolution. As we speak, my new phone is sitting on my front porch waiting for me. Should have had it shipped to work. I'll have a new phone number, so once I get the phone, I'll shoot everyone an e-mail to let them know my new number. I wasn't going to get a TREO, but a few people at work have them, and have told me how handy they are to have. I think it will be handy to be able to pull up the weather, sports scores, headlines, and directions when I am out and about. I can also check my mail and AIM through the phone. Plus there is a service that delivers a daily Sudoku to your phone. I love me some SUDOKU!!!
