Squilky...on the aisle
Went to see War of the Worlds this weekend. The movie intrigued me, despite the fact that the mentally unstable Tom Cruise is in it. So we went to see it yesterday to escape the heat and humidity for the cool darkness of the movie theatre. Other than Star Wars this is the only movie we've gone to see so far this summer.
I will say that the movie is somewhat far fetched, but what science fiction movie isn't? Tom Cruise is very annoying in the movie. Tom Cruises son is annoying. The character played by Tim Robbins is annoying. His daughter, played by Dakota Fanning really disapointed. I think she's one of the best young actresses out there, and this movie just doesn't challenge her in any way. She's just a scared 10 year old girl who screams alot. If you saw her in I Am Sam, you know she is capable of so much more. I think everyone in the movie was a little too over the top.
But the effects in the movie and the concept behind the movie is pretty awesome. From the way the movie was shot, to the creepy sound effects, the movie is really entertaining. Even as hell is being unleashed on earth, it is shot in such an artistic way, that it's like a work of art. It reminded me of scenes from Kill Bill where blood is being shed, but in an environment so beautiful.
On a scale of one to ten, ten being best, I would give War of the Worlds an 8. It's not the greatest movie, but it definitely has a wow component to it.

I love Dakota and hate Tom. She was the only reason I would see WoW, it's now been downgraded to "Netflix" status.
