Odd Thomas
I'm not a huge reader. It has to be a really entertaining and/or thought provoking book, to keep me interested. I received the Dean Koontz book titled Odd Thomas for Christmas. After finishing Angels and Demons, I was looking for something a little more "light" to read. And Odd Thomas sure did fit the bill. While the book may not be considered true literature by some, it is highly entertaining.
The characters are so real and likable. Koontz does a fantastic job of describing this small, desert town and it's people. It seems like everyone in the town knows one another, and they all share some type of hardship which seems to bring them together. Koontz has a way of ending each chapter like a cliffhanger which makes putting the book down, really difficult. I found myself intentionally stopping half way through a chapter, just so I could pull myself away for a while.
The book has a little bit of everything...mystery, romance, drama, a bit of a super natural aspect to it, and even dables a little into philosophy. While the central character is Odd Thomas, Odd encounters several different people throughout the story which keeps the story fresh and interesting. Koontz is incredibly descriptive, sometimes to a fault, but for the most part he is succesful with making the reader visualize a person or a scene. For someone who is very visually oriented like myself, that's important.
