Eclipse

Last night I kept checking the eclipse, and at first it didn't really impress me. Then around 9:50, the moon turned red so I grabbed my camera. Very cool, especially since it was so close to Halloween.

Poor Brett

I've known some people personally who have had a bad string of luck. But now there is someone who is a sports celebrity having a tough time. Brett Favre is regarded as being one of the good guys of the NFL. He's well respected by his teammates and opponents, commentators speak highly of him and he seems like a real down to earth guy. Several years ago after the season ended he announced that he was undergoing treatment for his addiction to painkillers. I thought it was brave of him to publically announce his problem. He did so in part to try to encourage others with the same type of addiction to get help. It's not uncommon for athletes, especially NFL players to get pumped full of drugs just so they can play though the pain. Well since Brett overcame his addiction, he has become a better quarterback and known for his toughness.

Last year, his dad dies in a car accident. A few short days later, he plays in front of a national audience on Monday Night Football and has one of the best games of his career. About a month ago, his brother in law dies in a tragic ATV accident that occurred on his property. Now this week it was announced that his wife is beeing treated for breast cancer. Luckily, after a lumpectomy and chemo, they expect his wife to make a full recovery.

Geeesh. How much bad luck can a guy have? Sure the high powered offenses of the Eagles and Colts or the juggernaught of the Patriots have a better shot at a Super Bowl ring, but it sure would be nice to see Brett get a stretch of good luck for a while, and lead Green Bay to another Super Bowl.

I read an article that I found VERY interesting. Apparantly since the 1930's, the Redskins have correctly predicted the winner of the election. Based on if they win or lose their last game before the election determines who occupies the White House. If this holds true, a Redskin win against the Packers on Sunday means 4 more years of W. If the Packers beat the Redskins at home, John Kerry will be changing his address to Pennsylvania Avenue. Based on the way the Redskins have played, the fact they are coming off a bye week, and the fact that one of their up and coming stars was arrested or DWI, things are looking REALLY good for John Kerry right now.

Apples, Pumpkins and Cows

Oh My...

Rachel and I were both under the weather for the better part of our week off together, so we didn't do nearly as much as we had hoped. The weather finally cleared up yesterday and we had a nice day to go to the apple orchard. After about an hour drive, we arrived at the first orchard and were told that all the apples had already been picked off the trees. Booo!!!! So we drove a few miles down the road and came up to another orchard that had tons of apples left on the trees.

Here's two of my favorite pictures from the day. I got to test out the new memory card Rachel gave me for my birthday, which worked very well. I can now shoot about 150 pictures on a single card. SWEET!!! I'll post some more later today or tomorrow hopefully...

Rolaids...

The first 3 games of the ALCS were rather stress free, especially game 3. Well the stress level of the last 2 games has been through the roof. The Yankees on Saturday night couldn't do anything wrong. They were hitting doubles and home runs left and right. Yet tonight, when they needed to manufacturer an insurance run, they couldn't get the job done. 8th inning Miguel Cairo hits a double to lead off the inning, Jeter bunts him over to 3rd. A-Rod steps up to the plate. Don't need anything fancy, just a fly ball deep enough to score Cairo. But A-Rod strikes out. So now we're in the bottom of the 10th and I can't even watch. I thought maybe writing on here would calm me down, but now I'm just feverishly checking the ESPM.com gamecast to see what's happening.

So on Sunday Rachel and I headed up to Anapolis in Maryland to the renaisance festival. We had a fun time, mostly watching the shows at the main stage. They had one performer who did a medieval times based comedy act which was quite funny. He used a lot of the kids in the audience in his act. Then there was a magician, followed by a silent court jester type performer. What Rachel and I were amazed at was how into the renaisance period some people are. There were dozens of people there dressed like knights, hobits, archers, kings, queens and the like. One of the oddest costumes was this guy who weighed about 400 pounds dressed as a Robin Hood like archer. You haven't lived till you've seen a 400 pound man in green tights. Ecchhhkkk. They had a few activities as well, 2 of which I participated in. 1st I tried throwing knives at a target. A lot harder than it looks. Of the 7 knives I got 2 to stick and they weren't anywhere near the middle of the target. They also had battle axe throwing which looked fun, but a little ridiculous. I also tried my hand at sinking a wench in a dunk tank. It was a fun time. We made great time there, but traffic coming back was just awful.

Today, Rachel and I both weren't feeling too great due to our early season colds, so we took it easy and watched Dodgeball a True Underdog Story which had it's moments, but it was no Starsky and Hutch of Something about Mary. Then we watched Mean Girls, which was a lot like Clueless. Tomorrow we hope to make it out to the new anex of the Air and Space Museum out near Dulles airport.

Kerry the Sportsman

I'm sorry, I just find these to be hysterical...

Here's Herman Munster trying to head a soccer ball. You would think a guy with such a huge nogginw ould be awesome at this, yet he looks like an ape taking a dump...

Here's Senator Kerry showing that sexy squat of his again. Pull!!!!

And lastly, with his long, lanky arms, he gives new meaning to the words "long snapper". And who plays football on a runway?

I so wanna see him bowl

2-0

Oh No Not Again....

Ok, Im trying to keep a level head here, but I'm pretty excited about how well the Yankees are doing against the Red Sox. And how great was it that Curt Shilling got booted so quickly in game 1. After all, he said he was going to take great pleasure in shutting up 55,000 screaming Yankees fans. HAH!!! Hey Pedro who's your daddy?

I hear this morning that Bill O'Reilly is being sued for sexual harrasment. Wow,
couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. First Rush Limbaugh with the drug scandal, now Bill
O'Reilly in a sex scandal. That's one way of cleaning up the airways.

And I know this has nothing to do with being a good president, but look at this... John Kerry looks like a scared school girl. While President Bush is saying, "we just scored the touchdown, lets go for the 2 point conversion!"

Damn Yankees

Holy crap am I tired. The Yankees game didn't end till 11:45. Geesh!!! By the time I showered and shaved, it was well after midnight. So when the alarm clock went off this morning, I nearly threw it across the room. The kicker, I get here at 7:50, and so far I haven't seen any sign of my boss (A Yankees hater, even though his wife is a big Yankees fan from Binghamton), and my bosses boss isn't here either (A Red Sox fan who bet me a lunch that the Sox would win the series against the Yankees). So I could have snoozed a few times and gotten a little more shuteye. Damnit...So Sleepy. But at least they won. I spent half the night installing a new kitchen faucetwith the help of Rachel's dad. The Yankees were humming a long. Then as the project neared completion, the perfect game for Mussina ended and the Red Sox suddenly had 5 runs. I may have to watch the rest of the series with my head under the kitchen sink for good luck.

Everyone is making a big deal about Hideki Matsui's 5 RBI's. And yes that's impressive, especially since he did it against Curt Shilling. But his lapses in the field last night also cost the Yankees 3 or 4 runs. It's odd for him to make such blunders in the field, he's one of the most fundamentally sound players I've ever seen. But I guess when you knock in 5 runs, you can have the occasional bad fielding day. But at least he hustles, unless that grease headed Manny Ramirez who just lolligags his way around in left field. I'm sorry folks, he should have caught that line drive Bernie Williams hit over his head in the bottom of the 8th. But I'm glad he didn't.

Lastly, I would just like to say no matter who wins the series, I hope it's a somewhat peaceful one. I'm tired of Pedro throwing at Yankees heads. Normally things stay pretty peaceful at Yankees Stadium. I think the Red Sox are too afraid of getting batteries tossed at them while out on the field. But the Red Sox seem to resort to throwing at people as soon as the going gets tough. Mark my words, if the Yankees have a good night against Pedro and make him their collective bitch, Pedro will throw at someone. Probably Posada or Sheffield.

Hey Pedro...Who's your daddies?

Michael Moore

If Michael Moore is so interested in "exposing the truth" and getting his message out there, why is he charging so much to do so? Why not offer Fahrenheit 911 for free on Pay Per View? Or once the production costs are covered, donate the rest of the money to help the people of Iraq. I mean the guy is so passionate about the cause right? Money shouldn't be an issue. It's not his ojective to make money off the tradgedy and misery of September 11th. Was it necessary to come out with a CD of music inspired by his crap documentary? Or to put out a book of letters from soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? Could it be that he wants to get invited to Susan Sorandon's house for dinner and hob nob with the Hollywood elite? Could it be he needed some money to buy some more Twinkies? Ok I'm done venting.

Yankees-Red Sox ALCS. I'm gonna need some Rolaids!!!

New Shizzle...

Spent this past weekend in Raleigh, NC. We drove down friday evening to see Rachel's sisters new house. The drive down took longer than expected due to traffic, but we made it there in time to see the kids before they went to sleep. Their new house is beautiful. And they are still building new homes and selling lots in their development. Hrmmmm.....tempting

On Saturday we headed to the North Carolina Transportation museum. They were hosting a Day Out With Thomas the Train. Little Andew is a big fan of the Thomas, and seemed to enjoy himself. After driving back to the Audra and Mike's house we ordered some pizza, then Mike and I went to play golf under the lights at a place called Knights Play golf. A 27 hole, par 3 golf complex. It was an unusually warm night for October, so it was really nice out there. About 2 holes into the round Rachel sent me a text message to inform me that the Yankees had tied up their playoff game against the Twins. About 40 minutes later I called her and she told me the Yankees had won. We got to see some of the NC wildlife like foxes, deer and rabbits on the course. The lighting they used was great. Each of only lost 2 balls over the course of 18 holes, and 2 of them were because we plunked them into a lake. Playing golf in october, at 11:00 at night under the lights is pretty awesome.

Sunday we had breakfast and celebrated my birthday. Audra baked me a cake. Mike and I watched a little football before Rachel and I loaded up the car to head back. It was nice seeing everyone, and it was great to see they were all doing so well. They seem to be adjusting nicely to their new location.

And I would just like to pat myself on the back. I won in all three of my fantasy football leagues thus week. I'm 5-0 in one, 3-2 in another (the money league Im in at work) and a piss poor 1-4 in my Yahoo league. But I beat Biz Nacho's so I'm happy :-).

Random Shizzle

I heard some good news last night on the radio. Apparantly OJ Simpson is in tax trouble and will most likely be serving some time in prison. It's about time OJ was reintroduced to a jail cell.

Throughout the past year, I've heard a lot of promises from hopeful Democratic candidates, and the president alike. During this time I've also heard from certain people how President Bush is the only choice and from other that John Kerry is the future of this country. What I've come to learn is that I need to be happy with whoever wins this years election. If Bush wins, we'll have 4 more years of second guessing. Quite frankly, I'm getting tired of hearing it day in and day out. I'm sure it's partially due to the election being just around the corner, but it's pretty much been like this for the past 18-24 months. If John Kerry wins, we'll see some change, and sometimes a breathe of fresh air is a good thing. We'll get to see if John Kerry is a man of his word and if he can live up to all his promises. I'd prefer to see the president re-elected, but I won't be devistated if he isn't. Maybe a little change is needed.

Lastly, Opie and Anthony made their debut on XM Radio yesterday morning. I'm a huge fan of talk radio. I probably listen to talk radio on average about 15-20 hours a week. I listen to Howard Stern in the morning, Don and Mike on the way home, and Ron and Fez in the early evenings. With the FCC cracking down on "indescent" broadcasts, the three shows I listen to most often have changed quite a bit. And for the most part for the better. I think Don and Mike's show is a lot better since they cleaned up. I think they tried to be too outrageous and it came across as being a little lame. What they do now is very unique and creative. So I wonder how o&a will come across on the uncharted, unrestricted airwaves of XM. Should be interesting. O&A's show was out of control (in a good way) back when they got fired. They did some outrageous things in the studio and just went a little too far by taking their hijinx out of the studio and into a church.

In TIger Woods 2005 they have a feature called game face where you can create yourself in the game based on a few dozen attributes. Here I am on a cyber golf course. Scary isn't it ;-)

Unhealthy Cooking With M-Unit

Ok so last night, I may have made one of the unhealthiest meals known to man. Step 1, fry up some bacon. What artery clogging meal wouldn't be complete without some bacon. Step 2, melt some nacho cheese. Come on, everything is better with cheese. Step three pan fry some hot dogs in butter, mmmmm butter. When you're done, assemble and top with relish. Here's the finished product. Tell me that mofo doesn't look tasty!!!

Last step, eat, enjoy, re-peat!!

When I went to bed last night, I feared my heart may stop while I was sleeping. But I'm still going strong... Well going anyway.

Congrats!

Congratulations to the Yankees who won their 7th straight AL Easy title last night. They certainly know how to win in dramatic fashion. Last home game of the season, bottom of the 9th and they win with a walk off home run. Booyah!!! Let's save some of those heroics for the post season fellas!!!
