Rudy is the man...
After watching last nights election coverage, there were a few things that stood out.
1) There were an awful lot of goofy looking fellas wearing bow ties covering the election.
2) Peter Jennings needs to take a geography lesson. (What do you expect from a Canadian).
3) I'm pretty sure Larry King is suffering from some sort of brain disorder. He just asks the dumbest questions off the top of his head.
4) Paul Zahn is easy on the eyes
5) Young people can't be counted on. I thought for sure after the overwhelming win on college humor.com for Kerry that young people would make a big difference. But I guess they were too busy painting their breasts and shaving their privates into the shape of a donkey to get out and vote.
6) The media made the hatred of George Bush seem way worse than it really is. It didnt surprise anyone that California and NY voted Democratic. The two states that are the media capitals of the world. People in the entertainment industry have had a platform to bash George Bush for the past year or so. They can go on a talk show and say how displeased they are. But when all is said and done, they get in their limo and go back to their mansion. Susan Sarandon and Bruce Springstein don't live in the real world. They live in their own, super rich world. The average American who works, pays taxes and is trying to raise a family lives in the real world. And their voice was heard yesterday in the voting booth. The heartland of America, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Georgia, the Dakota, the Carolinas, Utah, Colorado, etc all favored George Bush. They finally had a voice yesterday.
7) Rudy Guiliani is a better man than both Bush and Kerry. He made the best point last night. He was oviously happy that George Bush was doing so well. But he was ready to accept the facts if Kerry won. More Republicans need to work with Democrats and vice versa. The betterment and advancement of the US is more important than party lines.
8) Howard Stern had a good point this morning. He thinks people like Michael Moore and other Hollywood types inevitably hurt John Kerry. A lot of people are angry at Michael Moore, and if he is backing a Democrat, they want no part of it. When someone sees Ashton Kutcher on TV saying the past 4 years Americans have been "Punk'd", its not going to get your average man or woman to rush out and vote Democratic.
I Hope the next 4 years aren't like the past year. I wish we could all ban together like after Sept 11th. Im tired of all the hatred and fighting going on anong friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and media personalities. A nation divided will not stand.

I couldn't agree with you more on points 4 & 5. So on Collegehumor .com there are girls shaving their pubic hair into political shapes? Sexy!
Oh yeah ... FUCK THE KIDS
Yeah college humor had their own election called something like erection election 2004 where girls painted Vote Kerry or Vote Bush on their boobs. Good stuff.
Glad we agree on 4, 5 and 6. So you don't agree with Rudy about the two parties playing nice and working together to "enbiggen" the country?
1) Rudy is the man and should run for president.
2) This country will never be healed under this president. He alienates the world, and we are more hated now than ever. The country is still divided. Some of the US think tanks have been saying for the last 2 years that we have about 50 years before the US will fall.
3) 1,4,5 I agree on.
Hopefully we can all get along as a country. But that is only gona happen if the parties and the president all push unity instead of fear. And We have proven that we can't do that. Europe here I come.

Well the reason I wrote #6 was because the media would have you believe that Dick Chaney strangles puppies for fun. And I don't think he nor Bush are any more evil than Kerry and Edwards or any other politician. Historically we have done some not so nice things in order to empower our country and to preserve our way of life. The lion feeding on the zebras to remain kind of the jungle.
I think Kerry's downfall was that he campaigned stating he would raise taxes. Who's gonna go along with that?
And the whole morality issue played a bigger part than any. Certain people view Kerry as a baby killer because of his pro choice stance. Plus protecting the children from violence and sex is something most parents want for their kids. Some see it as stealing our civil liberties, others see it as protecting the kids. There's a very fine line.
So I guess you went through a lot of black paint last night ;-). Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas....
Rudy was generally considered an asshole in NYC until the final months of his term when he was able to look good after a tragedy. Better than Bloomberg? Eh, probably, but not by much. His administration was crippling our schools, favoring Manhattan over other boroughs and mishandling MTA money. I hate that people consider him a hero now.
I didn't see him speak last night, if he was pushing for non-partisanship, then yes, I can back that message if not the man.
1. Sure
2. Probably
3. Woudn't surprise me.
4. I hope you mean Paula.
5. True, annoyingly true. Very dissappointing.
6. Couldn't disagree more. The media's been very clear that this would be a close race, it's never said it's over for Bush. 49% of this country does hate his guts. It was never about everyone hating him, it was about how much we hate him.
"The heartland of America, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Georgia, the Dakota, the Carolinas, Utah, Colorado, etc all favored George Bush."
I honestly feel the majority of the heartland of America is uneducated and doesn't know what's best for this country or themselves. They shouldn't have a voice until they have something smart to say other than "Kill the sandniggers."
The NorthEast has the highest percentage of college educated people in the nation and it votes overwhelmingly Blue. Dumb people + well off people together apparently outnumber educated people who aren't rolling in cash.
Exit polls showed that 60% of people who voted for Bush did indeed believe we found WMDs in Iraq. These people are flat wrong, probably based their vote on this complete misinformation, and they should determine the course of this country?
7. See above. But yes, he's a better man than Bush, with Kerry.. eh... it's close at least.
8. Yeah, Stern is right. Moore is an idiot who's generally right but grating about it. And if Ashton Kutcher fans had voted as they claimed they were going to, Bush wouldn't be looking so damn smug.
I don't think Rudy is "enbiggening" anything. He's just starting his run for 2008 now. As for the thing about parents are concerned for their kids about sex and violence. Yes the Republican party (the party of the Pedophile Priests) is all about protecting your children. and sending them to war, and not funding their schools and OK I NEED TO STOP.
I should have gotten a drink at lunch to take the edge off.
Oh yeah on Paula Zahn (don't mind if Do) she may be getting a little older but she is aging well. I think the election coverage woudl have been better and better received if you had all the anchors be hot chicks. Bonnie Bernstein, Pam Oliver, Jullian Barbari, Marysol Catsro (of course), Elizabeth Haselbeck, Lisa Ling -that type of journalist, hot ones
NZONE - getting ready to sleep on the couch
Mike...
I don't agree about the media. There were a lot of people in the media that basically said George Bush is the anti-christ so vote for Kerry because he's not Bush. Hell man, Dan Rather was so gung ho to sink Bush he fabricated a story about him. What they failed to do is lay out exactly what Kerry planned on doing that was going to be so much better than what Bush has done for 4 years. I would hope noone would ever win an election because they are the "lesser of two evils". I think Bush could have easily been defeated if the democrats put forth a candidate people felt confident about.
I haven't lived in NY for over 5 years now, so I'll take your word about Guiliani. I seem to remember him being beloved by a lot of people. Certainly more than David Dinkins. I remember there being a HUGE MTA surplus at one point when Rudy was mayor. That's when they started making unlimitted ride metro cars and throwing in free rides when you bought a weekly pass. Then all of a sudden Bloomberg comes in and the price of public transportation goes up. Way up.
And I think a lot of people commended Rudy for "cleaning" up NYC and improving quality of life. Is shuffeling the homless around and pushing them outside of the subway and other train stations a nice thing to do? Not really, but people should be able to commute to work without being shaken down for money by some guy who smells like a urinal either. And little kids don't need to see a strip joint on the way to school in the morning. People should be able to ride the subway home at 2:00 AM and feel safe. That didnt exist when Koch and Dinkins were mayor.
Niel...
Yeah I think Jilian Barberie behind the CBS anchordesk is a whole lot better than Dan "droopey eye" Rather. In fact, the mere though embiggens me. Hey buddy, don't forget to pack a few extra blankets. It can get cold out there on the couch ;-).
I'm not disagreeing that the media hates Bush and was very slanted, and in my opinion, rightly so. But the media was never making predictions about the outcome, and no one was denying it would be a close race. That's the point I disagree with you on.
I can't think of a single poll, news anchor or celebrity saying it would be easy to defeat W, just that it was important that we do. You seem to be implying that the media was saying all of America hates Bush, when that's not true. Just that we're a divided nation, and half of us despise the man.
On K-Rock today Ben Harvey made a good point. While he would have been happier if Kerry won, it still would have meant half the nation would be outraged. And that's not cool at all. I do blame it on the Bush administration, the greatest divider of the American people since the Civil War. Even the elections during Vietnam were not this heated.
As for never wishing to vote for the lesser of two evils, of course, no one wants to be put in that situation. but when it's inevitable, as was this year, how could anyone of conscience, or as the Conservatives like say, morality, vote for the greater of two evils. Hmm... should I go for the guy who's kind of unproven and vague, or the murderer of 20,000 people? Tough choice.
I'll say now what you accused me of months ago. I'm ashamed of what America has become and the short sighted stupidity of the American people.
I've been late to the party before, so maybe one day I'll wake up and say "Holy shit, what is the president doing!".
For now at least I need a break. Im gonna listen to some music, read my book and relax. No more trading political jabs for me. Check back in tomorrow when I talk about something reall important. Like the Yankees going after Nomar Garciapara ;-).
Well, Yes. I did us an entire Sharpie Retractable. :)
I will try to refrain from politics for a little just to give you a break Kraus.
