Back in Town
Had dinner at Rachel's parents last night. Grilled burgers, hot dogs, and corn on the cob. Still picking the corn kernels out of my teeth. The best part was that Audra and the kids were back in town for a few days. Poor little Ashley visited the doctor and got four vaccinations, 2 in each thigh. But she's plumping up nicely, weighing in at just under 12 pounds. She's got all kinds of cute rolls and dimples thanks to her baby pudge. So it was fun playing with the kids and catching up. They all seem to be doing well in Raleigh.
Got to see bits and pieces of the All-Star game last night, or as I call it the Yankees vs the National League :-). It's cool that the Yankees got A-Rod, but if I had my way, I would much rather have Soriano back as a Yankee and send A-Rod packing. To me, A-Rod is what's wrong with the game, while Soriano is what more players should be like. I wonder if he didn't have that disastrous post season last year, if he would still be a Yankee. I really thought Soriano would be a Yankee for life. George Steinbrenner is a lot of things, but cheap isn't one of those things, so some day Soriano could be back in the Bronx. Damn he has such a sweet swing!!! Oh and I won't say that the National League as a whole is weaker than the American league, but lets take a look at the facts... Clemens was 10-0 vs National League teams, then interleague play starts and he loses 2 or 3 in a row. Then he faces off against American League hitters in the All-Star game, and he gets shelled again. One things for sure, the city of Houston loves that guy.
Nip/Tuck is one of my favorite shows. Last week they had an episode where a woman born in Somalia came in to have her clitorus "re-built". She had been a victim of female "circumcision" or as she called it "female genital mutilation". She described how her mother held her down while the witch doctor of the village cut off her clitoris with a sharp piece of glass. She explained that women who had sexual urges were considered to be dirty and whores. SO what the doctors did, (I'm not sure how much of this is fiction and how much of this is real) was they cut off the tip of one of her toes and made it into a clitoris.
In this time where it's hip and cool to be "Anti-American", and to bash and scrutinize President Bush's every move. Lets take a look at some recent news events that show just how great we have things in this country. All I ever hear is negativity, and how fucked up things here are. How would you like to be the woman who gets her clitoris cut off with a piece of glass. How would you like to be a female factory worker in Mexico? There they routinely check women to make sure they get their period. If they become pregnant, they are immediatly fired.
In Athens Greece, mass graves are being found filled with dead stray animals. Mostly dogs and cats. Apparantly stray animals are a big problem in Athens, and with the Olympics coming to town, they had to tidy up the place. Nice!!!
In Iran, a few weeks before their wedding and Iranian man found out his wife was not a virgin. It was such a big disgrace, that he convinced his fiance that they should kill themselves in a murder/suicide pact. So they get two guns, put the guns to their head, she pulls the trigger, he doesn't. SPLAT!!!

Don't get me wrong America is a million times better than everyplace else! Despite whose driving the bus, so to speak.
I read the thing about the dogs in Athens... that Olympics is going to be a disaster. Its a good thing that the Olympics are not in Seattle, they woudl be finding mass graves of gassed Hobos.

I don't know what you mean by hip to be Anti American. I have heard that in many places. No one is pooping the country, just the way things are run. There are still companies in this country that fire women for whatever reasons. Walmart is the only one that comes to mind now.
I knew female circumcision is real. The part I wasn't sure about was about the rebuilding the clitoris with the tip of a toe. I worked with a woman from Nigeria who said it happened to her, but she didn't seem too bitter about it. She said if she had a daughter she would do the same. Luckily she has 2 sons :-).
Ah from reading what you said didn't realize that you meant if you can rebuilt it with the tip of the toe. I must have missed that part.
That is sad she would do the same. But to each there own. Yes lucky she does have two sons.

You made a comment such as this once before, and I just ignored it, but I see it as a glaring misunderstanding. I don't think it's hip at all to be Anti-AMerican, and I don't think that Bush opposition is Anti-American. I know how I feel about matches up pretty closely with most of my Bush hating friends.
I love America, I think America is the greatest country in the world. I think George W. Bush is the devil and is leading our great nation to ruin, and it's for love of this county and a fervent hope to not see it dashed to pieces that I feel he should voted out of office (and maybe taken behind the shed and put to sleep.)
Anyone who is Anti-American wouldn't care too much what's happening here, or would express glee with the direction things are going, rather than be so concerned with finding new leadership and fixing things.
I know this is not intended as an insult but it is directed specifically at me and other, and it offends me to labeled anti-American. I hate the policies of the Bush administration and want to see significant change in the capitalist model, but neither of these defines the United States of America.

I have to agree.
Phunkie...that statement was directly pointed at any one individual who posts/reads my blog. It was more directed at Michael Moore type people who make the US military and US in general look like a bunch of evil doers. If the media existed in the 1930's and 1940's like it does today, there would surely be images, video etc of wounded civilians in Germany, Italy, and Japan (aka Our Enemy). So it bothers me when people who have the stance that they "Support our troops, but are against the war" rant about what savages our soldiers are. If there is a building with 50 militants in it, and in the process of destroying the building they kill a handfull of civilians, the military isn't commended on the elmination of 50 dangerous militants, they are constantly reminded of the civilians they killed or injured. That's what I mean by anti-American sentiment. Or when people side with the militants who are throwing rocks and taking shots at our military. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of hatred towards the US coming from the Arab world (or atleast the media would lead you to believe that). So I don't like to see people here in our own country bashing our soldiers and calling them murderers. I don't have a problem with you or anyone else having issues with President Bush's policies. I don't expect everyone to be mindless sheep who aimlessly follow. If that were the case, we would still be under British rule.
