Rancid

I've been listening to the new Rancid CD a lot. It's their best work in a while. Life Wont Wait and Rancid 2000 were both pretty bad. When I saw they had a new CD out, I wasn't too excited thinking it would be like their last two CD's. Boy was I wrong, the new CD is simply amazing! It's got a lot of different sounds too. Some songs have a ragae/ska feel to them, others a rock sound, and a great number just straight out punk. I'm particularly fond of Red Hot Moon, Out of Control (the story of my life), Travis Bickle and Spirit of '87. Ahhh, 1987, what a year, a simpler time.

I'm not a big fan of the bass guitar, but Marty Friedman does a killer job of playing the bass on the new CD. The bass lines carry the whole song. SInce the whole CD sounds so great, it makes me think the guys in Rancid were doing some serious drugs during the recording and writing proess. Musicians always seem to do better work when they are stoned. Sad....but true. There are exceptions however like Aerosmith, but it's rare. More often then not, the drugs stop and do the creative juices.
